A recent study by Onswipe, a tool that helps creating touch-friendly website, claims the Apple iPad dominates tablet-based web browsing with a leading share of 98%. Furthermore the iPad accounts for about 54% of all traffic from mobile devices including smartphones.

While working on our last symposium concept we had a discussion about the awareness of sustainability. The idea was to distribute short-dated designed media (e.g. flyers, posters, programs…) entirely digital. Isn’t it a waste of paper to print media for one day, especially in times of online communication as part of our everyday life?

For the last two years we have considered it our duty to support the traditional symposium at the Humboldt University of Berlin. For “True education – From the knowledge society to a knowledge economy?”, the 10th event in the history of the symposium, we created a HTML5 web-magazine for all subscribers which was optimised for the iPad. The application allowed users to gain access to necessary background information, create content and discuss talks.
